Data usage increase for the Datamanager 2.0

Products and Solutions

13/02/2023 / Milton Keynes

The Fronius Datamanager 2.0 is the device that transmits data generated by your inverter to the internet, such as PV values. The amount of data that is consumed whilst doing so has significantly increased for Datamanager firmware versions above 3.16.

If you are using a metered connection such as a 3G or 4G router, this increase in data usage is more likely to affect you, and could increase your bill significantly. In order to select a suitable internet connection, you need to calculate the data volume. The following information is used to calculate the data volume per month when operating the Fronius Datamanager 2.0

Hourly upload Up to firmware
version 3.17
From firmware
version 3.17 upwards
Total 8 MB 650 MB
+ for each additional Fronius inverter 5 MB
+ for each additional Fronius Smart Meter 7 MB

Daily/weekly upload
(without night mode)
Up to firmware
version 3.17
 From firmware
version 3.17 upwards
Total 307 kB 650 MB
+ for each additional Fronius inverter  520 kB
+ for each additional Fronius Smart Meter  769 kB

Daily/weekly upload
(without night mode active)
 Up to firmware
version 3.17
From firmware
version 3.17 upwards

Total 100 kB 350 MB
+ for each additional Fronius inverter  520 kB
+ for each additional Fronius Smart Meter  769 kB

The data volume may increase due to the following factors:

  • Disconnections
  • Restarting the inverter
  • Firmware updates
  • Remote control (VPP, Cloud Control)
  • Fault diagnosis by technical support - Remote system monitoring via Fronius Solar.web

IMPORTANT! Fronius recommends a flat rate to avoid costs for data volumes that were not taken into account in the preliminary calculation.
